I'm starting a blog!

meta

Howdy! This is officially the first post, so here’s a quick intro to how I plan to run this place.

What I want it to feel like

I had been thinking about creating a personal blog for a while now, especially when it comes to the things that I study on my own, but also to just talk about stuff. I intended the overall tone of the site to be quite relaxed and just a small mirror (or maybe a window?) to my personality and tastes, which is why I want to just let my writing be… Not too academic and over-polished.

So you might see a post once in a while about just personal thoughts, that are not necessarily related to code or engineering, but maybe just about music or a video game I’ve been playing lately.

How I made this site

I created this application using PNPM, Tailwind and Astro, with TypeScript as my language. The main reason I went for TS instead of JavaScript is because its lack of type safety drives me up the wall. I chose Astro simply because it’s a framework I’m not familiar with, and I just love a challenge. However it’s proven to be really easy to pick up, and incredibly fast for setting up a simple personal website.

Blog content is mostly being handled using Markdown. React is also part of this project mostly for anything that needs to be client side and I’m more comfortable with its syntax than Astro’s.

You probably saw the Home page as well, I made a cute little bento-style grid purely for the haha, if I’m being honest, same with the constellations. However I do really love the looks of it, the “Now Playing” card is a simple static object, which I plan on keeping updated with my latests obsessions, so stay tuned if you’re interested in my tastes :p

What I’m planning next

I want to talk about a very interesting topic that I have been studying recently, which is Merkle Trees, or Merkle Hash Trees if you wanna be more specific. And also a quick inside on how I did the constellation thing for the Home page.

Most of what I’ve been studying is based on the definition in RFC 9162. More on that in a future post.

In any case, more is coming eventually. If what I said sounds like fun, you’re welcome to stay and read as much as you want!

Toodles.
